
San Bernardino Settles Housing Element Lawsuit
"The City of San Bernardino has updated its housing element and density bonus ordinances as part of a settlement of a lawsuit with the Public Interest Law Project. (...) On behalf of several low-income residents of the city, Public Interest Law Project filed suit against San Bernardino in February, claiming the city had not filed its housing element on time, had not been responsive to the plaintiffs, and had not updated its density bonus ordinance to comply with current law.
In the settlement agreement, the city agreed to update the housing element according to a very specific timeline, consult with a very specific set of stakeholders mostly representing low-income residents, and update its density bonus ordinance. (...)
The lawsuit was filed by the Public Interest Law Project and Inland Empire Legal Services. Michael Rawson, perhaps the most experienced lawyer in the state challenging housing elements, was listed as one of the lawyers representing the Public Interest Law Project."
